Jomsom Muktinath Trek

After landing in Jomsom go to a restaurant and have breakfast, after breakfast gradually crossing over a low ridge to Jomsom Village. Cross the Panga Khola to reach Ekle Bhatti meaning lonely pub. From Jomsom onwards it is very windy in the afternoon and the trek continues on the gradual path on the Kali Gandaki river bed for about 3 hrs and finally reaching at Ekley-bhatti village. After a good stop here an hour of easy walk takes us to Kagbeni, which lies at the bank of two rivers. Kagbeni is an interesting windswept village situated on the main age-old Trans himalayan salt trade route to Tibet via Upper Mustang area. (B, L, D)

Our journey starts with a special permit check up and onwards to the riverbank of Kaligandaki up stream. During the walk we will have scenic picturesque places to stop by. From Kagbeni the path climbs steeply to re-join the direct trail leading to Khingar at 3200m. The trail climbs through a desert landscape till Jarkot Village. A further climb reaches us to Muktinath. Trek to Kagbeni 2800 m. Kagbeni is the Gateway to Upper Mustang. The monastery is supposed to be some 500 yrs old which is situated in the town. Upper is only permitted with the special permit granted in the limited number per year with high royalty . That is 500 US$ per person only for the Govt royalty for at least two people and the trek cost is extra.

Kagbeni to Marpha 2670m passing Jomsom where the airport is situated with the connection to Pokhara .Jomsom is the capital of Mustang district with the government offices. The Eco museum serves here with the collections of Mountains. Marpha is the village of the Thakali peoples, the local inhabitant and the apple garden and apple product is the most popular around the area.

Trek to Ghasa 2010 m. Ghasa is a small town near the Kaligandaki River and popular for bird watching. The trail from Marpha to Ghasa is taken as the deepest gorge in the world. Because the mountain Annapurna I 8091m. and Dhaulagiri 8168 m. high on both Sides of the River making a deep valley.

Ghasa to Tatopani 1190m. “Tatopani” literally means hot water in Nepali and there is a natural hot spring with a small bathing pool. You can enjoy the hot spring pool & relax after a long walk.

DISEASES CURED BY BATHING AT THE HOT SPRING

The temperature at the hot spring ranges from 45*C to 48*C and is 54*C to 57*C at the foundation. The water in this hot spring consists of a great amount of black salt and phosphorus which itself is a natural antibiotic. Due to this reason, the diseases are not transferable from one another while sharing the bath at the hot spring. By taking continuous baths in this hot spring, diseases like gastric, rheumatism, uric acid, back ache, skin disease, swelling, goiter and arthritis have been found to be cured. Depending on the nature and condition of the disease, people take bath in the hot spring for a period of a couple of days to even weeks. The hot spring can occupy up to approximately 300 people at a time.

While walking, we observe the lifestyle of the people in the midland villages of Nepal. Ghara and Sikha are the villages with terraced and inclined farmlands. We gradually walk steep up to ascent Ghorepani. While traversing through the Phalate, Chitre and a no-habitation area, we encounter with rhododendron, brich, magnolia and some meadows on the way. As we gain height, the peaks ahead look wonderful. We stay at Ghorepani for we have to make the climb to Poon Hill early tomorrow morning. Overnight at Ghorepani. (breakfast lunch dinner)

Early at dawn, we ascend to Poon Hill (3,210m. /10,531ft) to catch the moment of spectacular sunrise over the whole Annapurna and Dhaulagiri masses and surrounding rice terraces. The nickname of Poon Hill is itself a photographer`s paradise. After breakfast, we continued the ups and downs trail trek to Tadapani for lunch.

From Tadapani the trail descends through beautiful forests to Ghandruk, which is a stunning village of Gurung people, one of Nepal’s most famous ethnic groups, known for their distinctive dialect, culture, costume, and lifestyle. Ghandruk is also home to many soldiers from the famous Gurkha regiments. From here we can have stunning views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna, Annapurna III and Fishtail.after lunch sightseeing at Ghandruk Village.

oday, we trek from Ghandruk to Naya Pul then drive back to Pokhara. The trek will be downhill all the way to Birethanti. We step onto a staircase paved with stone slabs, curving in and out of the village and then terraced farms. It keeps on going down almost without breaks from Ghandruk until Modi Khola river valley. By the time we arrive at Birethanti, some of us would feel like having run a downhill marathon. But our marathon is not over yet. From Birethanti, a half-an-hour's walk takes us into Naya Pul. The journey on foot comes to an end at Nayapul. Then, we drove from Nayapul to Pokhara. (B, L, D
