Overview

Kathmandu offers stunning Himalayan view to the north from the surrounding hills.  Kathmandu Day Hiking is a pure nature hike to the mountain view point (Champadevi 2285m from lea level). Champadevi hiking offers the Birds eye view of Kathmandu and Bagmati river valley. Mt. Everest can be seen in a clear day from Champadeve hiking.

View of Kathmandu Day Hiking:
You will have the most beautiful view of Kathmandu from Champadevi hiking. Mt. Manaslu, Mt. Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, Xisapangma, Garri Shanker and Mt. Everest in a clear day. Kirtipur city can be seen in its foot hill and Patan Durbar Square, Bungamati and Khokanna city can be seen beautiful. The typical Tamang village at Bosan (after hike an hour), different species of birds and flora and fauna are other attractions of this hiking.

Best time for Kathmandu Day Hiking:
The summit of Champadevi is at an altitude of 2285m from sea level and 1000m from Kathmandu level. Champadevi remains open round the year but the best time is February to April and October to December. Late December, January and early February could have snowed. In a monsoon season (June, July and August) the hiking trail will be slippery and  will be leeches. Please bring tobacco or salt to avoid them.

Articles of Hiking Gears

As per the season you have to wear the different clothing. The details of clothing’s to Champadevi hike are as following.
Sports or hiking shoes, normal trouser, light jacket, Long shirt, T-Shirt, Sun hat, Trekking pole, Sun hat, Sun cream, Sunglass, day bag, camera, water bottle, Tissue paper, Toilet paper, Umbrella or raincoat (for winter, gloves, Gore-tex or down jacket, thermal trouser, woolen cap)

Other items to brings:
Swiss knife, chocolate, biscuit, Binocular, garbage plastic bag etc.

Local Entrance:
There no local entrance till date to Champadevi Hiking.

Trails of Kathmandu day Hiking:
Drive (30min)  to Lanagol (foot hill of Champadevi) and start hiking. After walking about an hour you will arrive at Bosan. It already offers a beautiful view. After Bosan, hike to Bhanjyang about one and half hour. This is the best view point of Champadevi hiking. Further, continue an hour will arrive the top of the hill. There is a temple where local people visit on Nepali New Year. You will enjoy the creeping birds, seasonal flowers.

Meal in Kathmandu Day Hiking:
The trail passes through the forest and hill ridge. There are no tea shops or houses after Boson.  You will have two different options for lunch. Either you hike with your gas and  stove and boil your noodles and coffee or wait till late lunch after comeing down. If you choose to take later lunch then you must bring some snacks (banana, chocolate, biscuit, apple etc) to eat when you are hungry.

Flora and fauna around hiking area:
Champadevi is covered by tropical forest. The jungel is extend to the Terai (south of Nepal). There are leopard, deer, birds and other animals are found. They might spot while hiking but it is very rare and they are no harm to the people.

The trail and people along  Day Hiking:
Most of the trail will be passing through the lush green forest. The first part around Bodan village, You may encounter children playing and asking chocolate, grazing goats, cattle’s and working people in the field.

Hiking guide to Kathmandu day hiking:
Champadevi has few different trails to hike and return. The different route has different sceens. We strongly recommend hiring a hiking guide. There are some assistant trails which can confuse you or you may not hike through the proper route. The most south route (Dallu) will pass the biggest Buddha stupa and some Gumpa around and Starting from Lanagor (Puspalal park)  would offer the best view.

How hard is the hiking:
The hiking is not an easy and not hard. If you are not a regular walker or if you are with child or senior person, please consult with us before bookings.

Frequently asked questions

Champadevi hiking is not recommend to do alone. You must hike with experienced hiking guide or need someone who have been there before. You should return before sunset as there are no local houses.
