Nar Phu Valley Trek

The same highway is until Dumre 135 km/84 mile and leaves the Pokhara road and follows the right fork to Besishahar 43 km/27mile Kathmandu to Besishahar is 178km/111mile distance west direction and only Local Bus service takes 7 hours time to get here. Besishahar is the district headquarters of Lamjung district of Nepal. Here are 15 hotels with electricity. Dharapani to Bagarchap 2160m/7086ft takes 45 minute time with gravel road. Here are 3 hotels with power lines. Bagarchap to Danagyu 2200m/7218ft takes 40 minute time. Leave the main trekking trail, take a right trail and walk to cross the River Marsyangdi then follow the Nar Phu valley through pine forest. You will pass several tiny natural caves and one beautiful waterfall. There is a narrow canyon, and the walk continues to reach Dharamsala (pilgrim house). Stay overnight here at camp.

Climb steeply with river valley to reach a pasture 3200m then continue to next Meta Kharka 3560m. It is a winter settlement by the people of Nar. You may encounter Yak and sheep here. There are juniper, shrubs and bushes one the way for today. There are other settlements on the way including Junam 3550m and Chako. Walk continues with Mountain View to reach Kayang. Stay overnight at camp here.

Descend steeply to the river and walk along the bank of it to reach a small camp site. Cross a bridge over an icy stream and walk through a gorge. Climb steeply to reach Phu gate with the view of Phu villages. There is also a Dzong (fort) also. Walk continues past chorthens and crosses a bridge to reach Phu Gaon. Here is the popular Lhakhang Gompa with Lama Karma Sonam. Stay overnight here at camp.

You will take a hike around Phu Valley. You will visit Nar Phu Kharka. It is a summer settlement by the people of this village. You explore the people, culture and tradition here and back to the camp. Stay overnight at camp here.

Walk passing out the Phu gate and climb down to the river and go back to Junam. It is a beautiful pasture with summer settlement by the local people of the villages around here. Stay overnight here at camp.

Walk to reach an old bridge through a narrow gorge. You will have a beautiful scenario. You will meet a couple of chortens on the way to this trail. Continues to walk to reach Nar gate. It is situated at the top of the hill. The Bhotia people live here. Stay overnight at camp in this village.

Explore another village of Manang district with their lifestyle and culture here. They are Tibetan types of Nepalese people known as Bhotia. The people normally send one daughter or son, each family to the Gompa for monastic life. Stay overnight at camp here.

Climb uphill all the way to reach Kangla Pass with a view of Annapurna II, Gangapurna, Tilicho Peak and Hongde airport. Descend steeply at first then take a gentle downhill to reach Ngawal. It is a beautiful place with the Bhotia people. Here are gompas, chortens, Mani walls, prayer flags, school, hotel and bhattis. The panorama view of Annapurna Himalaya, Chuu East 6200m and West 6419m will be seen from here. Stay overnight here at camp.

Ngawal to Mungji 3440m/11286ft climb downhill takes 1:30 hours and encounter the lower route to Manang. Mungji to Braga village 3450m/11319ft takes 25 minute and 30 minute takes to get to Manang. It is a good valley with surrounding snow capped mountains with Bhotia people. They are involved in animal husbandry, farming and tourism business with hotels and restaurants. There are school and old Gompas around here. The view of Gangapurna Lake, glaciers and snow capped mountains are so beautiful here. Stay overnight at camp.

Option No 01 :- Back to Pokhara or to continue trek from Tilicho or from Annapurna Circuit to Pokhara

Walk from Khangsar to Tilicho. It is a Gurung village with a gompa, lodge, Mani walls and chorten. Now you will have an adventure trail sometimes. There is a landslide area with rock falling, and a narrow trail. Please take care here before crossing the point. The Grande Barriere of Annapurna is beautiful from here. Climb up to reach Tilicho Basecamp with one lodge. Stay overnight here at camp.

Take high altitude uphill trail all the way with beautiful Himalayan view to reach Tilicho Lake. It is believed to be the world 's highest lake with beautiful watercolor. During the winter it will be frozen. It is such a quiet place and you can explore the lake with Hindu temple. Stay overnight here at camp.

Walk several uphills and downhills through narrow icy and rough paths, with beautiful Himalayan views to reach the Mesokanto Pass. The superb views from the pass include Annapurna Himalaya ranges, Tukuche Peak, Dhaulagiri 8167 m and many more snowcapped peaks. Stay overnight at camp here.

Walk downhill with rough trail and further you will meet pine forest, a high-altitude army camp. Continue walks to reach Thinigaon 2770m with a few tea shops and Thakali people. The Himalayan view is great with Kali Gandaki River and Jomsom bazaar from here. Climb down to cross a bridge over Kaligandaki River and reach Jomsom Bazaar. It is a Thakali town as well as district headquarters of Mustang district. There is a school, airport, numerous hotels and lodges, tea shops and a view of Nilgiri to the north east point. It is a windy valley. Stay overnight here at camp.

You should take an early morning (before 10 AM) flight from Jomsom because of the windy valley. There is Twin Otter flight with the view of Dhaulagiri Himalayan peak with glaciers, Annapurna, Ghorepani, Sarangkot, Pokhara city with Phewa Lake are beautiful. Stay overnight in Pokhara city at a hotel.
